Joshua 24:1-33

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15 NIV

Thought:

God gives us a home and what do we do with the home?

Is your home a parent centered home?

Child centered home?

God centered home.

Introduction:

Who do you serve? Every human is serving one thing or the other.

It is impossible for a human not to serve a god – hand made, manmade, thought made, emotional made, feeling made etc.

God saved us to serve. In both Old and New Testaments, we have been saved to serve.

‘Serve the LORD’ mentioned 9 times v14, 15, 18, 19, 21, 22 & 24

V 19-24 -Speaks of Judgements

Joshua is the head/ leader of his house.

V16 – God is Holy, therefore we cannot serve God and keep hold of sin

We serve because we are saved by God

Ephesians 2:8
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God

But as for me and my house: The contrasting word “but” gives the sense that Joshua was determined on this course no matter what anyone else thought. His relationship with God was not based on any man, but on the LORD alone, and he would serve God no matter what anyone else did.

· Joshua’s decision meant hesitation was gone.

· Joshua’s decision meant he lived above the evil influence of others.

· Joshua’s decision was deep, calm, clear, fixed, well-grounded, and solemnly made.

· Joshua’s decision was openly made.

· Joshua’s decision was earnestly carried out.

· Joshua’s decision was kept through his whole life.

We make excuses with coming to church, bible study, service to God

He chose us for Friendship and companionship.

Service begins with Salvation and separation.

Joshua brings the charge again and again.

V20 – There are consequences when we forsake God.

Salvation stabilises our relationship with God.

Relationship is by Virtue of Biology

Fellowship – is talking to your biological brother, son, daughter. Leviticus 19:2 & 20:7

Conclusion:

We all have to make up our mind based on what we think is right …. Perhaps this is the big question. However, there is a question that needs an answer….. ‘Who do you serve’
