One thing = main thing, most important thing, top priority.
David Psalm 27:4
one thing I ask of the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the House of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to enquire of Him in His temple.
Mary Luke 10:41
You are worried and upset about so many things, but only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen what is best and it will not be taken away from her.
Solomon Proverbs 30:7-9
Two things I ask of you oh Lord, do not deny them to me before I die: … give me neither poverty nor riches … lest I be full and deny you and say “who is the Lord?” or lest I become poor and steal and dishonour your name.
Rich young ruler Mark 10:21
You lack one thing: go, sell all you have and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven and come, follow me.
Paul Philippians 3:14
This one thing I do, forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead, I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards.
Peter 2 Peter 3:8
Do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as 1000 years and 1000 years as one day.
Zacchaeus Luke 19:1-10
Zacchaeus got all of the above right: he took time from his busy day to meet with Jesus and overcame the obstacles before him. He welcomed Jesus into his house and listened to him and spent time with him. He didn't let his money come between him and Jesus. And he seized the moment of God’s saving grace in his house!!
Remember the rich young ruler went away from Jesus sad instead of staying and asking for His help. Jesus wouldn't have asked him to do anything that he wasn't going to help him with. And he won't ask us to do anything that he won't help us with.
What one thing will you go away with today?
What one thing might God be wanting to give you today (not rationed!)
What one thing might God be wanting to help you with today?
Will you ask the Holy Spirit to help you to worship Jesus at home and at church? To make Him your priority above the busyness of your days, above your needs and finances, above your troubles and distractions, above your past, above your need for your own timing?
